Abstract

This article gives a brief review of the food situation in the Middle Volga region after the abolition of the serfdom in 1861. It presents the material about the effect of the World War I on the Middle Volga region agriculture. It also contains information about the town and village population provision with food products. The article considers the activity of province administration to overcome food difficulties. The role of municipal and land self-administration in dealing with the food question is also revealed in the article.
